The Quality of our Democracy is Much Strained .....
Descendants of Slave Traders now in Parliament
Many members of our Parliament cannot be chosen – nor sacked – by the people in a general election. Some inherit a right to sit in Parliament, to contribute to making law over us, and to collect payments from the public purse. This is not fair nor is it in any way democratic.
Some of these "Peers" inherited this right from slave-trading ancestors, as documented in this article by Catherine Bennett.
